Just need some help built a 6.0 lq4 and putting it in my 98 ta is there anything that I have to do to complete the swap. Someone told me that I would have to drill and tap the a place for the alternator and this was out of a truck and someone said I had to change the pilot bearing. let me know thanks

tap a hole for the alternator, there is a blank spot, so it isnt too hard to do. Relocate one of the ground wires, on the LS1 it goes to the block, and there isnt a hole for it on the 6.0L. (I put mine with the motor mounts.) and putting a pilot bearing in there would be good too, since mine didnt have one whenever i got it.

Also find a way to offset the 100 lbs you are adding to the front end.

yeah, that too... those things are really heavy. The blck alone seemed like it weighed about as much, if not a little more than my entire 5.7 shortblock.

I thought it was ~60-70lbs in difference?

I'm debating between a freshly rebuilt LQ9 longblock or rebuilding my LS1 for my '00 WS6, any pointers?

Its more like 85-100 if i remebere correctly.
If your gonna be into racing at the track at all i would say 5.7. Unless you are planning on going crazy with the spray or boost. only then would the iron block be worth it.

you cant use the lq4 oil pan or oil pick up eiher.

you need to use the ls1 pickup and pan.

Interesting stuff, have you run a iron block in your car before? This will be primarily a daily driver with the occasional trip to the strip. I figure a cam, bolt-ons, LS6 intake, should be happy with ~380-400whp and maybe a little squirt on top. Now how would you compare the same with an aluminum 346?

Yea that's what my book tells me as well. It's trying to decide whether or not it's worth the weight that sucks!

Yeah i blew up my original 5.7 and put in a stock 6.0 shortbock. I milled my LS1 heads to get the compression back up and threw a fairly big cam in it. it made good power 424/420 thru an M6. And it ran decent 11.7's @ 118 weighing ion at 3555 lbs. But i decided to go really fast and the easiest way to go fast is to lose weight (that and i couldn't compare my car to anyone cause i had 18 more cubic inches). So i had enuff parts layin around to have a 5.7 rebuilt, threw that in with stock heads and a stock cam. It has run a best of 11.04 @ 122 weighin in at 2960 with me in it.
Losing weight is the BEST mod i have ever done to my car. And i can't justify adding all that weight to my car especially in the front.
If you really want a 6.0 why not get an LS2 block? they are only about $300 more than the iron block.

Good, I'm glad I'm hearing first hand knowledge finally! One of the reasons why I pondered the LQ9 so much was because I could get one for $150, complete long block, then just have it freshly rebuilt (needs one) and go from there. But at the same time somebody locally has an LS1 shortblock for $1300 which is already set to be dropped in, just carry over my heads and buy a new cam which I woulda bought for the LQ9 anyways. I guess really it comes down to is the extra 18cubes worth the 70lbs you know? And I dunno, I think I'm leaning more towards the LS1 now anyways, keeps things simple. Keeps the weight down on an already heavy car and I think I feel a little better about reving a LS1 bottom end to 6500 than I would an LQ9 with the heavier rods and pistons.
