I believe that you can reuse almost all of the gaskets, except for the head gaskets. But, if your doing all this work to a motor, why not spend the extra $300 for all new gaskets?

I wouldn't reuse any of the gaskets. However the ones that you could probably get away with are the timing cover gasket, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, rear cover gasket, intake manifold gasket, water pump gasket, and possibly the valley cover gasket but I don't know.

Thing's you must or should replace. Egr gasket *if using*, air gasket *if using*, oil pump pickup o-ring (unless you can find a way to not disconect it from the oil pump when switching things over), front main seal, rear main seal, and the cylinder head gaskets.

I'm sure I've probably missed something, but that's as good as I can give you.

It's ~$5.00. You can order it online at www.thunderracing.com. www.ls1speed.com also has them I'm sure.

I just found this thread doing a search and was wondering the same thing.

The "How to build High-Performance Ls1/LS-6 V-8s" says on page 98 (chapter 6) that they all need replacing.

I've been told by a reputable engine builder that the metallic gaskets don't need replacing. I'm inclined to believe that this is true. (By the way, have you tried to price these? )

That leaves the non-metallic gaskets such as the intake, throttle body, etc.

I know from experience that the throttle body gasket definitely needs replacing otherwise it will leak.

So, does anyone know for sure which ones need replacing and which ones don't?
