Default LS1 Oil Galleries

I'm wanting to install an LS1 or LS6 in my '68 Camaro, but a friend of mine told me to be careful when buying the '98-'00 model motors because of a knocking noise at start-up. He claims that the oil galleries were different on the older LS1's, but corrcted on the '01 & '02 models. Is this true?

Yes, 97/98/mid 99 had that issue, this was corrected for 00+

In general the 01/02 blocks are the best for various reasons, LS6 intake, improved rod bolts, LS6 oil pump to name a few...

no, 01+ pumps are suppose to be better, but i cant confirm that, 99+ blocks had an updated rear oil gallery crossover, that suppose to work better than 97-98 blocks, cold start knock is common with all LSX blocks
