Default Hydraulic Lifter - Is there to manually pump it up?

I am going to be installing a set of Morel lifters when I put on my Dart heads. I have read here that the pushrod cup sits higher from the roller than the stock lifters so it will be necessary to also change pushrods. I want to do a swipe test with checking springs.

Is there a way to fill the hydraulic lifter so that the plunger won't deflect during the swipe test? I am wondering if I submerge it in oil if I can operate the plunger and pump up the lifter. With a dial indicator on the valve I should be able to tell if I am getting full lift.

Use a "trigger-pump" oil can to pre-oil the lifter. Soaking lifters is hit or miss. I don't know about Morel lifters, but the stock lifters bleed down quickly. Be ready to do your swipe test asap and to take your measurements on the first revolution.

I messed with measuring lift at the valves to verify rocker ratios. I was surprised to see how quickly the lifters bleed. I was able to crank the engine over a few times to pump them up again.

A check spring probably wouldn't be enough pressure to cause the lifter to bleed down. Also, since pushrods come in .025 increments you don't have to be 100% exact.

Yes, I am using check springs with either shoe polish or white out so it will wipe off easily with little pressure.

Not sure I follow the procedure to pump up the lifter

Squirt the oil into the hole on the side of the lifter until it is full.

There should be enough spring pressure to keep them pumped up using a check spring.

That's what I wasn't sure of, I don't have my Morel's yet they are backordered

Worth the wait though
