Default Solid Roller or Hydrolic Roller?

This might sound stupid but here it goes, Can you put Solid Roller Lifters on a cam that already has Hydrolic roller lifters? I noticed on Comp Cams web sight they are offering Solid rollers for the LSX engines. I am at present running the MS3 cam from TSP with my factory Hydrolic rollers. Every now and then I can hear one of my lifters loosing its prime, mainly while idoling. I use to run Solid rolers on my oldschool carb engines and would realy like to go back to that type set up. I am putting my 408 together this spring and was thinking of converting to the solid rollers and running the same cam if I can. I am putting adjustable pedestal rocker arms on too. So please tell me if I can run this cam and switch my lifters to the Solid rollers or if thats imposible. Thanks.

you will have to find out from the cam grinder.........some hydrolic roller lobes can be used as a solid roller but not all because the hydrolics usually don't have the "take up ramp" that "slowly" takes up the lash.....without that "take up ramp", the lash gets "banged" out and could damage parts........

so again........call the cam grinder......

What do you mean? I like mine just fine. I just realy do not like my factory lifters. They loose their prime at idol, and I am possitive I am loosing it at highe rpm. I just realy would like to go Sollid roller on this cam.

Lol, I was just giving you a hard time. I would do a solid setup if I had the money as well.

You won't have lifter drain problems with solids, but is it really worth the time it takes to set them every week?

thats an old urban legend.........with todays shaft mount rockers you can go 5000+ miles without any change in lash.......in todays world, if the lash changes, something was either loose or something is broken......

(now yes......for those who are running 1000000000000RPM and want ever 0.0005 HP, you will need to re-lash before you go to the track..... )

I run solid roller on my daily driver and have NEVER HAD to relash (unless I removed something)......check it every 5000miles (oil change) and it is always the same.......

you are correct. All my other engines were solids. I would check them right before going to the track. They would always be right when I checked them. The only real problem is they are noisier then a Hydrolic. But let me tell you, my Hydrolic MS3 is alot noisier then the Stock cam as far as lifter noise goes. I blame this on what I think are weeker factory lifters. They are just not made with the extrem ramp rate, and high spring psi in mind. If I can not run this cam on solid lifters, then I will have one cut for solids. I am waiting to here back from TSP to see if I can just switch lifters.

No it is not a problem. I would rather have solids with the noise then Hydrolics that make the same noise
