Default 3.905 or 3.910?

I need some advice.I'm about to buy a ls6 bare block to build a 383.Would it be better to run a 3.905 piston or a 3.910 piston?I never see anyone talking about the 3.910 bore size. Can a ls6 block be taken to that bore safely?I would fine with the 3.905 bore, just read where mahle offers the 3.910..also,anyone running mahle pistons?Any help will be appreciated..Scott

The less material removed the better (THIN sleeves)

If you can get a perfectly straight bore at 3.905 that is undoubtedly a better way to go....Leave yourself some room for a "clean-up" down the road. You never know....

I think Diamond, JE, Ross, Lunati, Weisco and probably others have 3.905 size pistons. I agree with Tony as well. Is this a new block or a used block? If used, then definately pay to get it machined to 3.905. If new, I would go with stock bore size and save you the $$ for machine work, your only talking maybe 1 CI. In fact you might want to price it out, a new block may come out cheaper than a used one plus machine work costs for boring .

Go with 3.905 now. A few years when you want to rebuild, you can rehone it to 3.910.

I agree with everyone else that the 3.905 bore would probably be the better choice. You still have a clean-up later on down the road. I agree with DanZ28, that it might be cheaper to get a new one and save money. I was going to get some work done on my block but found it was cheaper to get a new one so I think I'm going that route soon.
