I know stock LT1 springs are good for .480" of lift, and the stock cam had about .450". I would guess the LS1 springs could probably compress to about .500" considering the factory leaves some cushioning room so they will last past 100k. But with either motor, the tension pressures aren't very high, and stretching the springs even with a longer rocker arm is never a good idea when spinning anywhere past, say 5000 rpm. That's why GM used better springs for the LT4 motors even though the only difference was the 1.6 rockers and the cams were both the same. Hope this answers your question in a roundabout way.

Stock springs can't even control stock lift above 5,500 rpm. They are not worth keeping. LS6 springs should be able to control lift up to say .558" fairly well below 6,400 rpm I'd imagine.

Stock LS1 springs are junk for performance applications. I swapped to yellow LS6 springs for my stock cam and still using them for my .56x lift cam I have now. At least get some yellow springs if not 918s.
