Default tr224 w/o longtubes

seeing that that I'm in CA...can't do the long tubes....is a tr224/114 worth it? assuming a lid on the car, about how much extra rwhp would that cam give me?

maybe I should just do nitrous....price would prob be about the same

I did a TR224 without headers and I definitly felt some power. I then added headers a felt a pretty sizeable gain. I think with a TR224 and some shorties you could make some good power. Nutous is always an alternative.

Any headers that move the cats from the stock location will fail inspection. You just have to find a shop with a cool enough guy to let that pass.

nothing compares to nitrous for bang for the buck. If you only want the power on a rare basis, spray it.

The cheater may be a better alternative. If you want a little more overlap and power have them grind it on a 115 LSA with a 114 ICL.

Ferocity: how long did you run the cam with stock manifolds & cats? How was the tuning for idle and low rpm (below 1500 rpm) cruising? I'm curious how that much overlap does with stock manifolds. I've been looking at limiting overlap at .05 with stock manifolds to -8 to -10

Same with MN. We can only drive 7 months out of the year though.

I think the single pattern TR224 is designed with longtubes in mind. I do know a guy that has stage II 5.3l heads, TR224 and edelbrock shorties. He didn't dyno very high, but runs pretty strong. There are probably better cams for shorty headers/stock manifolds, but it would be a nice bump from the stock cam.

Some good posts on here. A word of advice.

Always try to keep the big picture in mind, how you want your car to perform and how you will use the car.

Intake, heads, cam, and headers all work together toward the end result. They should be matched to optimize your combo, and your $.

My understanding is that the tr224 is not the best choice with stock manifolds, and the CheatR is not the best choice for a car with LT's.

Measure twice, cut once.

If I was in your position, I'd go n2o. The only reason I'm going h/c is because I screwed up my head

This winter has been rather mild. Its starting to get cold though now. Supposed to be below zero for a few days. Just so its not windy I really dont mind the cold. Well, I woke up this morning to -10 with a windchill of -36.
