Default Is a ported oil pump worth it?

I'm deciding whether a stock LS6 oil pump will be good enough or if I should go with a ported one? Right now I have a stock 98' which is weak. (25-30PSI at 800rpm when the engine is warm. What do you think? Thanks.

I put a stock LS6 pump in my 99 SS and saw 15-20 psi improvement cold, and 10-15 psi improvement hot across the entire RPM range. Good enough for me!

I home ported a new ls6 pump and shimmed it slightly with some small washers.

id say 50 cold idle, a hair under 40 hot idle, and up to 75 at WOT.

I'm really happy with my TSP ported LS6 on my 98. Not sure what the difference in price is from a stock LS6 compared to a ported one???

a new ls6 is around 75, a ported one is 130 - 180. If youve got a dremel, you can port it yourself in 5 minutes.

Just check TSP.... $90 for a stocker, and $120 for a ported and shimmed one (+ 10 psi). IMHO $30 is worth it to let the pro's work on my babys heart

mine went from 42psi to 50 psi cold idle, 38psi to 43psi warm idle, and about 55psi to about 65psi at WOT. Definetly worth it to me. (Im not real sure about the WOT numbers, since i try to watch the road whenever im at WOT)

u can get a stock ls6 one cheap. cold idle for me i see about 55-60 psi and warm idle is about 45. its not ported or anything. look at all the old hot roders, they run stock pumps. what is a ported one going to do? you still have the same passages for it to go through so as long as you see good pressure there is no point IMO

Are there any "How-to" tutorials floating around for oil pump porting?

Curious if there is any differences between the oil pumps from year to year other than age/wear? I put my buddies stock '02 oil pump on with about 20k miles to replace the '98 pump I had with 60k miles. I figured it wouldnt hurt because of less mileage, but is there any improvements over the years?

The 98's have been known to fail unexpectedly.

Just use synthetic, you'll be fine.
