Yep, I'm pretty broke right now trying to get my other car finished, so hopefully it is just pushrods. $35 and all will be well again. If not, eh, I'll come up with the money for some ported heads or something.

you guys keep tellin this kid it could be a bent valve or pushrod but you are missing something..."A PROBLEM". he merely did a 3rd to 2nd shift and had no problems...no check engine light...no rough idle...nothing. i would leave it alone, if theres no problem, than dont worry about it.

well a few GM techs have told him what to do, he's been to a specialty shop, and he's still worried. i don't know what more to tell him. and there is almost a 1 in a million chance that a gen III PCM wouldn't detect a missfire on a dead hole, which the hole would be if either valve was bent, due to not being able to build compression.

If you're that paranoid and want to know for sure, just give the motor a leakdown test, that's it. If you bent a valve you'll know without a doubt.

No I'm not that worried about it anymore. The GM guys told me I should be good. I was just saying that I had been paranoid about it cuz I hadn't ever done that in my car, so I was worried about really messing something up. If I start to notice a rough idle or anything I will run a compression test, but I think I got lucky with not even really bending the pushrods. Thanks everyone.

Yeah, I was confused with this thread as well. My car idles rought and PCM was flashing an SES code (I'm assuming a misfire). I'm going to go order some Comp pushrods today after work. I figure I might as well have them anyways. If I bent some pushrods, it'll fix that problem. If I bent some valves (which I'm assuming is the case...will check out today after work with compression/leak tests), then I need to might as well replace the pushrods anyways when I put new heads on it.

Hey, no need to be sorry bro. I don't know if I ever told you it was idling fine, so I appreciate you trying to help me out. I'm going to pay close attention to it, and I might do a compression test anyways sometime to see. But it was really nice today so I took it out and drove for a bit. Drove great, idled normal, no codes, good power...so I'm really happy with that. Thanks for the help!

I HAVE BENT PUSHRODS TO WERE THEY ALMOST MAKE AN "L" AND NEVER THREW A CODE AND DIDNT MISS. aLL IT WAS DOING IS TAPPING REAL HARD WHEN I REVVED IT. NO TAPPING AT IDLE. I PUT SOME HARDEND TSP ONES IN AND MISSED A 2-3 SHIFT TWICE IN ONE NIGHT DUE TO A CRAPPY STOCK-98 MASTER CYLINDER AND I THINK I BENT VALVES NOW BC ITS KNOCKIN AGAIN AND ISNT THROWN A CODE. JUST BC IT ISNT THROWIN A CODE DOESNT MEAN NOTHINGS WRONG...JUST MY .02
