Default Help picking Cam for Thirdgen Powered LS1

Alright been searching for a cam for some time now, but have finally gotten to the point where i got the money to get one. I have most of all the bolt-on's (LT, 2 1/2 y-pipe, random cats, pulley, Ported TB) I'm planning on installing some gears, either 4.10, or 4.30 depending on the cam i decide on. I also have katech rod bolts installed.

My car is driven daily from about may till September, i go to the track about 3-5 times a year, and i want a cam that will perform decent at the track and will be a beast on the street. I want something that will pull hard from about 3k-about 6600-6800 rpm's). My car is lighter then most 4th gens since i have a 3rd gen(about 3200-3300 lbs) so i'm thinking with gears and my weight i don't need a real torquey cam. I was looking at like a ms3/torquer/trak cam, but let me know what you guys think.

Thanks a lot
Justin

P.S. - i know i have to get this tuned, and will planning on getting it done at A&A corvette

Seems like you've done your homework. My only questions are will you be using stock or ported heads and what casting number? I saw that Trak cam and it looks pretty interesting with the lift but I haven't seen a whole lot of results yet. Based on your criteria and the gears you'll be running it sounds like you want something at least 232/234 big. Don't forget about the LG cams, they've been making good power G5X4. Best bet is to check through the dyno section and peoples' sigs. until you come across a setup that looks like something you'd like. Also check the sponsor websites ----> and give a few of them a call, they'll guide you in the right direction.

will be using stock heads right now(243 pretty sure) but prolly be upgrading to either ETP or AFR next summer. I i've looked through the dyno section for some time now just wanted to get my own feedback. I've looked at the LG cams and i like them but they're like 70 more, and not sure if the 70 more is worth it.

the only one I have experiance with the one's you mentioned is the trak cam in my t/a , it's a good cam and pulls hard 3000-6800. my best time so far is a 11.40 1.60 @121mph and 10.70 1.60 @130mph on a 100 wet shot, I would like to put it in my third gen ls1 powered also but I rather try something like a ms3. Your third gen should be fast with any of those 3 cams you mentioned and should be making over 400 wrhp on a good tune.

thanks for the input, i'm basicly looking for somthing that will be a blast to punch at about 3000 on the street, and will also perform well when i head to the track. Can you notice a big difference below 3k when just normal driving around town with a big cam like that? and with my weight and gearing would my bottom end really suffer at all.

4:10 gears will help, and your bottom end should be fine with the cam only and full bolt on's setup

k, been searching some more and basicly have narrowed it down to the ms3/g5x3/trak, which cam do you guys think will give me the most power from 3k-6700 rpm. hoping to get some responses back from guys who are running them, and if any of you the dyno sheet of it that would be great.

Those are some big cams that will make alot of HP up top.....out of all the three I would go with the MS3, but be aware that with any of these IMO big cams, it wont idle or drive like stock...If you plan on daily driving the car, then overtime it might become a PINA to drive car so keep that in mind...If you're looking for more a streetable cam that you'd be driving everyday then I wouldn't go smaller then a F-13..Good Luck..thats just my .02$

with only 4 month's of daily driving I wouldnt mind daily driving any of these big cams at all, he says he only drives it from around may-setember. it's all in the tune that well make his car more streetable.
