Default strange cam question...

ok this all started when i asked a fellow ls1tech member to firm up my shifts and adjust myshift points for me, he then emailed me back saying that some one had been inside my computer and it was strange. i said what do you mean, and he shoots back with that it basically has a dry nitrous tune on the car (19* wot timing and a fat *** fuel curve-11.7:1 at the dyno) yet when i got my car we looked at the history and it was a one owner old *** lady who just basically wanted leather and somehow the dealer sold her a z28-we called her before buying). which brings me to my point and question: short of ripping out the cam, is there a way to tell if there is a different cam in there? there is slight surging at idle and a little missfiring at idle but thats it. its basically stock except for the lid and cutout, which i added myself, yet i ran a 13.3 @104 bone stock (as far as i know), so any help?

If there is a slight misfire at idle then you should be getting an SES light. Is it on? have you checked the codes if so?

That's interesting. If your car has any kind of decent cam it won't be pulling a 13.3@104. That's in-line with bone stock times.

I agree. I'd be pissed if I had a cam and was only running 13.3 @ 104 mph. Your time slip is well within the stock range. Your MPH might be a little low from the rich tune. My friend has been running 12.9's @ 107 mph with his stock car, with random 12.8's. That would be funny to find out the old lady you bought the car from was spraying lol.

well i mean technically wouldnt a cam in a otherwise stock car run slower times because of the stock ehaust especially choking it?

The exhaust could definitely be choking the cam. If you have crappy traction it could easily run 13.3. My car wouldn't dip under a 14 until I put on a set of 315 nitto drags with 45% tread left. I still had traction problems on the launch but it ran a 12.9 with those. This was back when I had the Mac midlength headers and a cutout w/ stock exhaust on. It was pushing 380rwhp at the time. I haven't tuned my car since I swapped headers and exhaust, but as it sits I can/have put at least car and a half on a car pushing 382rwhp/380rwtq.
