pitchin' a tent

my low oil light came on the other day.i was almost a 1 quart and half low after only 1200 miles since changing it.i know ls1 are oil burners but come on.now theres some hard racing miles into that 1200 miles but a 1quart and a half low is a lot of oil.checked for leaks none.my buddy told me i could put a catch can on there.my question is..is that the only solution.do i just have a motor that burns a lot of oil.do i have a bigger problem. does anybody know of anything i can do to cut down on oil being eatin.by the way my motor has 24,000 miles on it.
