Default No oil psi for 20 seconds, after oil change

Is it just me or the way I have my oil pressure guage setup? (Guage unit is tapped into the block off plate above the oil filter)

But once the oil has drained from here, I need to prime my engine until oil gets all the way to the back of the motor where the sender is, can take 10-20 seconds of cranking til it gets psi.

This only happens after oil has been dumped, not ever start.

Just wondering if its just because where the guages is at the back this is the last part of the oil path, so it takes time to get oil. Should I mount the guage elsewhere to get a quicker reading?

Thats normal. I always fill the filter. Every vehicle I've ever owned has done this after an oil change.

No biggy, as long as you now have oil pressure. I sure hope you use a good synthetic though.

Yes always fill the filter, even if its just to remove the block off plate above the filter, the oil lost there is enough to not show pressure til oil gets to the back again.

btw have 20psi at cranking and 50psi at idle, is this normal for LS1?
