5.3 head gaskets or 5.7 ok?
I posted this on the truck site but I don't think anyone knows. I hope some one hear can help me out. I'm putting a new set of stock heads on my 5.3 truck engine and I don't care to give $120 for a set of top end gaskets. I'm considering using the $20 gaskets from NAPA that I have used in the past on my 98 TA. The only difference that I know of is the 346 gaskets are about .100 bigger hole in the gasket. Anybody know if this will cause a problem? I'm also contemplating having the heads milled .010-.020 to raise the compression slightly. Can anyone shed some light on what the max amount is that I could have shaved off and if the 5.7 gasket would be ok for the 5.3? Thanks for any help or insight you can give.

I don't know how I missed your question over on the truck site.
I have all of the parts for a head swap sitting in my basement. I wanted to use a thinner head gasket with my swap to improve the squish area. I called Cometic and asked them if I could use their LS1 bore gasket (3.910) on my 5.3 and they said it would be fine.

Thanks guys,
Do you know anything about how much I could shave off the heads and still have no issues? I just want to raise the CR a little for fuel economy and power. I know it's very marginal but it's cheap and while I have them setting here.
