If they came out with the bolt they look like a shiny sleeve about 3/8" tall. If they are still in the rod they look like a little sleeve sitting flush in the rod cap.

i know this is a discussion directed toward katech but I have ARP rod bolts that im going to be putting in and when I tore my engine apart I saw no sign of ferrules "what ever they are" or anything anywhere. Should I be concerned about it with ARP bolts?

the ferrules are only on 99+ engines and any replacement oem rod bolts there after. So if you have a 98 and have never replaced the rod bolts you dont have them.

ok would it be flush at the bolt hole? if so there was nothing there. there is a very small step inside the rod bolt entrance. we even trie a small pick in the hole to see if we could feel it. only thing we could feel is the crack where the cap bolts to the rod. do you have any pics of what it may look like? we took a bolt out of another cap just to see again and nothing.both of the boltswe pulled out have about 3/8 to 7/16 thread and the rest is what i would call "shouldered."
the "shouldered" part does have lines in it where we figured the threads could have been rolled the rest of the way down the bolt but weren't. is any of this making any sense to any one?

no worries. The "shouldered" bolts are the 98's and dont come with the ferrules. the 99+ bolts are smooth other than the thread.
