Default Katech rod bolts

Want to know if you guys that installed katech rod bolts removed the feral or left them in.Katech's web site says to do so but the instructions that come with the bolts do not.I would like to know if you guys that left them in have had any problems.

Took stock bolt out, put new bolt in. That's all I did.

My rod bolts did'nt even come w/instructions. Maybe we can get KATECH to respond to this thread. I would hate to see someone ruin their motor over such a small detail

Yeah, remove stock bolts and feral, put katech bolt in after lightly oiling the threads, trq to 50lbs and that is it.
Do one bolt at a time, do not remove the cap off.

Usually the feral stays on the bolt. If not, take it out.

Not for me! It was my lack of experiance working on cars that I didnt know to take them out...would of been nice though to have a heads up on the directions - not trying to bitch but I kinda messed my engine up now.

Just finished putting my engine back in today......I take it the ferels are the threaded bit in the cap? if so all mine are still in place. Do I need to remove and whip the ferels out, or does it not matter that much? (much being a relative word, if the engine is going to go pop, I'll have them out)

Still not a 100% sure but from what I have been told leaving them in is what caused the horrible noises I was hearing...I am still not sure, I need to have someone go through the engine still to see what I f'ed up.

I used the Katechs as well.

So you left yours in then? but never started it?

Take the old rod bolts and put them in a few turns so that it can grab on to the ferrels...then it should just yank out.

I tried that and nothing came out. When I looked in the rod cap did not see anything in there.

Not sure if its even in there...I am going to have a shop tear it down and go through to tell me what is fucked up. If its that bad I am going to buy this H/C stock shortblock from a member on here.

I simply removed the old ones, put engine oil on the new Katech bolts, and installed them with the specified torque spec.

20K+ miles on my daily driven combo with a 7100rpm redline and about 6 hrs worth of road racing in 90*+ weather and probably 15 1/4 mile passes shifting at 7K. No problems and no debris in the oil. AFR 205's and TSP 233/239 112 cam with long tubes. 440rwhp
