Default PCV question for a 2002 LS1?

Sorry if this may seem like a stupid question, but there's tons of talk of upgrading the LS1 PCV to a 2001+ LS6 PCV setup. Does this include 2002 LS1's also, or do they already have the upgraded PCV?

(tried searching, didn't come up with much)

sadly no, check out ls1howto.com and look at the difference. I just replaced mine with breathers. Two $6 breathers and a $6 oil cap to drill through.

thanks... a question about your breathers though, I had to delete the PCV system on my grand am and put on a breather (won't go into it) and sometimes I'll get an oil smell in the passenger's compartment. Do you ever have that problem w/ your breather setup?

eh, I guess I can experiment with $20 in parts... I'll have to do some research on how to do it and where to buy the parts. Thanks

Local autozone had everything. Two 5/8 generic breathers. The oil cap was behind the parts counter, so you have to ask for it.

I had bought the breathers that just vent right under the mushroom cap. They also had a breather that has a ~5/16 nipple that would allow you to route the output / oil smell away from the passenger compartment if you dont mind a little extra tubing.

As far as how to do it, there nothing to it really. remove the PCV. insert 5/8 breather into rear drivers side valve cover (already has a rubber grommet). Now for the passenger side, i took the oil cap and drilled a 5/8 hole in it, then i RTV'ed the breather to it. Very simple. You also need to pick up two 5/16 or 3/8 rubber caps to plug up one valve cover nipple as well as the PCV hose nipple on the intake manifold. Remember that you keep the short hose that goes from the valve cover to the throttle body.

Will this still get oil in the intake?

I questioned the same thing. Upon digging into it it seems theres a one way check valve in the valve cover itself. It only allows air to travel from the throttlebody to the crank case in the extremely rare case that you have less pressure inside the block.

Basically, oil cant get sucked in that way... ..or so ive read.
