Default All of the stock diameter valve springs suck?

I've noticed over the past few years every single type of stock diameter spring pretty much has had it's issues. Some people get by luckily. Does anybody else just think these springs are just too small to be made strong enough for what we put them through? They are definately alot smaller than the manley springs I had on my old lt1 with a baby cam. Seems like doubles are a must. Anything else is just chancing it. I'm running the 918's(one has failed) and thinking eventually I just need to machine the heads to fir some old school style springs in there rated for alot more rpm. Opinions?

I am beginning to believe that only larger springs will be reliable. It's frustrating though because there isn't a lot of info available to decide which parts to purchase...

Can anyone shed some light on a decent combo -?

I'd really like to know all the particulars on the larger diameter springs (~1.460 dia) such as:

A) Can the machining of the spring pocket break through to the intake runner
B) What is the spring and retainer P/N's that have been successfully fitted

I'm sure I'll find out how much the stock diameter spring suck sometime this year. Joe you still have 918's correct? I'm gonna look into the 987's. Need to have me heads machined properly. Probably find a local machine shop and have them done instead of paying out the *** for something that we never recieved.
