So if you are trying to DD the MS3 and are running 4.10's or 4.56's, you'd practically be launching from every stop sign. Wouldn't it be more tame with 3.73's or something similar?

Also, the performance is better because the higher stall speed and/or shorter gears gets the engine into the upper rpm quicker, where the most horsepower is.

i believe the theory behind steeper gears, is that the car wont be so lazy in the lower RPM's, as a cam like the ms3 has a high powerband so you want to get out of the lower RPMs ASAP, which steep gears and /or a high stall would help you achieve. then again, its not for everyone.
basically, makes the car not so lazy down low...helping pull all the way through...
