Question TSP Magic Stik 3 or Torquer v2

hey guys Im trying to decide on a cam, I haave mild bolt ons (listed in sig) and I was probably aiming toward a wet kit soon, Off previous results what do you all think between the two cams? I know the MS3 needs a rev limit upgrade and a definite tune to get max performance but how is the torquer. Just would like to here some info on the two.

Both cams will definately require a tune. The MS3 will be harder to tame.

Yea, both cams will require a tune. The MS3 is more radical .. but people on here daily drive them after they're tuned. I've heard the ms3 loves to get sprayed as well, and will be a cam that really pulls hard up top. The torquer might have better mid range relative to the MS3 but thats just a guess.

Either way you are going to want a tune regardless.

have you looked at the 233/239 at tsp, with the wide split, i would guess it loves nitrous almost as much as the ms3, but might be a little easier to tune, and somewhat of a medium between the 2 cams you listed. check it out

Good suggestion, I've been looking at this cam, too. Great power range, and oh so sprayable

[EDIT] Comp XER lobes! Good lift, .595"/.603". TSP claims typical 50 rwhp gain

I sent my 233/239 back for the MS3. I am extremely happy with the decision I made. Get a mailorder tune from Jason and you shouldn't have any problems daily driving the MS3.

You can find a lot of information by searching this sight. The MS3 is a little on the aggressive side for a daily driver, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Once properly tuned and matched to either steep gears or a high stall speed converter it will work perfectly for a daily driver. Speaking of which, what transmission do you have? You want gears or a converter first.

This always confuses me.

Wouldn't steep gears make the car more agressive? So if you are trying to DD the MS3 and are running 4.10's or 4.56's, you'd practically be launching from every stop sign. Wouldn't it be more tame with 3.73's or something similar?

Big cams don't like to run at low rpm, especially under load. Leaving from a stop or putzing around at low speeds with the MS3 and stock 3.42 gears would be no fun. If you ever drove or rode in a stock geared but moderate-large cammed car you would understand. For now just take our word on it. It doesn't take an MS3 size cam to need gears and/or converter either.

Also, the performance is better because the higher stall speed and/or shorter gears gets the engine into the upper rpm quicker, where the most horsepower is.

i believe the theory behind steeper gears, is that the car wont be so lazy in the lower RPM's, as a cam like the ms3 has a high powerband so you want to get out of the lower RPMs ASAP, which steep gears and /or a high stall would help you achieve. then again, its not for everyone.

basically, makes the car not so lazy down low...helping pull all the way through...

I'd go 4.10 and dont look back. They arn't that bad all (actuly i prefer them over the 3.42 on a stock car). Put them in my TA and actuly makes 6th gear some what usfull on the freeway.

Definitely 4.10's. You'll be twice as quick (if you can still hook up...). Best mod I did for quickness! I think the MS3 is definitely the strongest cam suggested, the Torquer v2 is the weakest of the 3, and the 233/239 is a good compromise for power, torque and driveability, although when compared to a lot of other cams these 3 are not that far apart since they're all XER lobes.
