Default The best way to lube my ls1 after it has been sitting for 2-3 years.

Well I purchased a LS1 off of a member here for a very good price. The motor is out of a salvaged car but eveything seems to be fine with it as it still spins freely and has compression. I dont want to have to rebuild the motor so I was wondering what the best way to lube it up would be so when I go to start it for the first time the rings, berings, ect arnt dry. thanks in advance

#1 put oil in the combustion chamber.. take out plugs and squirt a little oil in

#2 find a oil pump and adapter that can feed pressurised oil into the engine prior to starting it. If you can fill all the passages with oil at pressure and make sure all the bearings are oiled you will have no problems. there is a number of ways to do this, some adapt at the oil filter or the pressure sender location..

I would also pull the valve covers and lube up the valve stems, rockers and shoot some down the lifters before spinning it up much at all. I like the idea of using an oil filter adapter.

Just unplugging the coils and turning it over with the starter isn't good enough? I am asking because that is all I planned to do before I start my car after my oil pump swap.

I really recommend a pressure source such as an accusump. I have pulled the spark plugs and turned the motor over in the past, thinking that there is no load on the berarings. Think about the cam bearings, with the plugs out there is no load on the crank, but the valve springs put full load on the cam.

wouldnt you be able to just pull the plugs and push rods out and then turn it over without any force on the berings?

Where is the best place to pick up an external pump to do this with, as this sounds like the rout I will most likly take?
