ok all as I continue my search for a cam I am wondering how much the ramp rates change the power of the cams. I am not wanting to go huge maybe something in the 220ish range.
secondly I believe I want the high lift versions of these in the 550ish range.
What I read in the cam selection guide that you get more power under the curve with the aggressive lobe but is in notable?
does one lope harder than the other (sound wise)
I assume the aggressive lobes are harder on the rest of the valve train?
I was hoping to use the 03 ls6 springs with my combination I think these are good to 570 lift but I assume that would be on the XE (mild) lobes.
a 218/220 - .550/.550 was recommended to me
Thanks
Dave

Lope is relative to overlap, idle setting, tuning and exhaust used.
Take a look at the Vinci/Crane cams for your 5.3
They have grinds with similar #s you are asking about. And yes faster ramps do produce more power under the curve.

Thanks Predator since this is in my 68 truck it is lighter than the new ones and has no catts and pretty open exhaust. I have used a pair of zo6 exhaust manifolds.
Are the Vinci cams a mild or aggressive lobe? I have looked at these before and liked them however I really want to find a used one to save a few bucks.

One advantage of faster rate is that for a given size at .05, the faster rate cam has a smaller total duration (i.e. advertised or duration measuered at .004 or .006). The shorter total duration makes the faster ramp cam easier to tune at idle and a little easier to pass a sniffer test because there is less total overlap.
