Default Measuring pushrod length with stock rockers.

I originally got this procedure mixed up with an adjustable valvetrain so now I question my procedure. This is what I have gathered from other threads. Correct me if I am wrong.

1. Install a solid lifter (stock lifter with solid internals) with regular valvesprings

1a. Install a check spring and use a stock lifter with stock internals

2. Install adjustable pushrod and heads and torque heads down, install stock rocker and torque to 22 ft-lbs.

3. Increase adjustable pushrod length until zero lash is achieved.

4. Rotate engine over a couple of times and verify that zero lash is still present. If so, remove pushrod and measure length.

5. Add lifter preload (depenent upon type of lifter used) to length found in step 4.

Note: I did not mention anything about veriftying a wipe pattern because I have been informed that the wipe pattern will NEVER change unless you change to adjustable rockers or a different pedestal.

I tried to answer before but the database was ill.
1) Make absolutley sure the lifter is on the heel of the lobe you are going to measure.
2) Put the adjustable pr in the hole.
3) Lay the rocker on the stand and hold it there with your fingers.
4) If you have play take the rocker off and adjust the pr longer.
5) If the rocker won't sit on the stand take it off and adjust the pr shorter.
6) Go to step 3 and repeat until the rocker is sitting firmly on the stand with no play between it and the pushrod.
7) Remove the rocker and the pusrod.
8) Determine the pushrod's length
9) Add .050" to .100" to that length. That will be your lifter preload.
10) Order that length pushrod: Adjustable pr length plus amount of preload desired.

The heads should already be torqued down and I would definitley NOT turn the motor over with the adjustable pr checker in the hole as a pr. You will most likely break it.

Ok, that works, so now does anyone know how to determine length on the comp cams pushrod checker 7702-1. It cam in a plastic bag with no instructions. What does each complete 360 degree rotation equate to in length?

Thanks,

Comp has it on their web site, they use gage length. I bought an 8" vernier to measure overall length that most of the other manufacturers use. Check Comps web site, but it won't help much.

Anyone know the Comp OEM replacements (850-16 I think) preload?
