I have got a set of pistons that are measuring 3.896-3.897, can i go ahead in put these in my stock block?? The block has 100k on it but i had it checked out and it has no scratches and the shop said it was good to go. So my questions is can i go ahead and put these pistons in my block without any machine work?

 

Well you have to hone it reguardless, you can't put new rings on a old glazed bore scratches or not.

After the hone you need to measure the bore, and compare that to the piston specs.

The difference is the piston to wall clearance. No one can answer the question you're asking without knowing your specific bore size.

 

For lack of a better term you'd be half assing this if you just plopped them in there.

Get it to a machine shop or in the hands of someone that knows what they're doing and do it properly or you'll pay for it in the end.

Yes, you could just drop them in. You WILL have problems of one sort or another if you do so. OIl consumption,reduced power,etc. It's just not worth it.

 

What about putting the stock pistons back in?

 

At 100,000 miles? You need to at least deglaze the cylinder walls with a hone to get the rings to seat correctly.
I'd have it measured at least. Pistons and cylinders.

 

I had the block taken in and cleaned. The machine shop that checked it sayed that it should be good to put back together
