Its really not that bad... I swapped my LT's and ORY for the stock system a few months back - not a big deal at all.

Cali is gay. I passed twice now with Macs, no cats, no air, open Borla and 224/112 cam loping. Laugh all the way home.

Yah you can get around smog but, not if you remove the smog equpment....

You WILL need egr, air, and NO longtubes to pass CA emissions.

exhaust must be in STOCK configuration. (at least on the day you smog your car )
sorry, but you are WRONG.....

my old 400rwhp 99SS passed smog 2 times.... EASY.
the car had a 222/224 .566/.568 114 with S2 heads 10.6:1CR
FLP long tubes, FLP cats, NO EGR, NO AIR, NO REAR o2's!!!!!!!
its all in the tune.
all you have to do is turn off the 5or6 flags that would trigger the EGR ses light.
and i believe we did the same thing for the air and 02's.

but my smog guy told me.... if you are running a H/C car, keep the cats off the car until its smog time.... other wise they will clog very fast..... when i sogged mine it was the first time the cats had ever been on the car.
and it passed EASY, he even told me i could have gone with a bigger cam!

so take your car back to your tuner and have him fix it..... and you may need to try diff. cats?
how old are they.

Actuly he is right, that is the law in california, but doesnt mean you can't pass with LT's, etc. if you get the right guy. Like i have said before it all depends on the guy you get, if you get a nice guy he will pass you, but if you get a dick then good luck. Also if you get pulled up to take one of those state certified ones(randomly pick) then your in big trouble. I had to do one of those and first they wouldnt pass me cause they said the car didnt come with dual cats stock, argued with him for about 10 min till he went and looked it up. Then he failed me because i didnt have a timing mark.

So basicly it comes down who you go to and luck. Is it illegal to run Lt's, aftermarket cats, etc......YES, but can you still pass possible.

Wow. I've wanted to live in Cali until I read this We just went to OBDII in my county in VA. What about his tune will have to change in order to pass? The idle speed helps if it's higher right?

If all you have to do is pass the sniffer then pour 1-2 gallons of denatured alchohol into the almost empty tank. It might run a bit ragged but will be practically emmissions free. I can attest to this from experience. I took my Ford Ranger from 10 times over the legal limit of hydrocarbons to just over 1/5 of the limit. Wow! what a difference the alchohol made. I don't know how good it is for the lines and pumps but you'll only be running a short while. Good Luck!
