Default what cam with stock manifolds...

i have a 99 z28. was just wondering what size cam would be good to use with stock manifolds or would it be a waste of money to do a cam with the stock manifolds. my other mods would be 373 gears, torque conveter, intake manifold, throttle body, and exhaust. also what kind of power would i be making through an a4. thank you

The Thunder Racing CheaTR cam is outstanding with stock exhaust manifolds. Gains of 35 rwhp are typical when running factory manifolds and cats. Specs are 215/230 .600/.578 117LSA. I made 395rwhp with it with stock manifolds, cats, and SLP dual dual catback utilizing AFR 205 heads. Awesome driveability and power from idle all the way to 6800 rpm!

Do you plan on keeping your stock manifolds?

If so, I would get the Thunder Racing CheaTR cam. It's designed for stock manifolds, but I've heard it will also work well with longtubes if you get those later.

If you are planning on getting longtubes soon, then choose almost whatever cam you want, as it will 'work' with stock manifolds but won't be ideal.

What are you going to do with the car?

Would the cheaTR cam make a better boost cam than say a GT2-3 cam?

The big question is, can you pass the sniffer for emissions with the CheaTR cam?

You could live in California and have sotck maniflods and have a decent cam if this thing passes the sniffer.

If it was me, I would skip the cam right now, buy headers now, then go with a even bigger cam later. As grandpa would say..........."Your getting the cart before the horse"......

I used to have a Comp 220/224 114+2 cam using my stock manifolds and it was a big improvement over the stock cam.

I was satisfied with the extra power for about 2 months and then I wanted more. After getting the 236 and headers, gears, pulley, Shaner S3 throttle body I can tell you to go ahead and get the headers and then get a man-sized cam that you'll be happy with. They all drive about the same once tuned. Go big or go home. It'll save you the work of changing it again.

Now I still want more. I'm saving for a D1 Procharger and large chamber heads.
