Default motor mounts broken?

have any of you guys ever broken a motor mount? i just put the motor back in my car. its not bolted to the trannie, but with the bolts tightened in the motor mounts, there is 2-3in of front to back play. the motor will rock back and fourth (foward of the car to the back) not side to side. do i have a broken mount?

Unless it will rock very easily, you are fine. Without the engine mounted to the tranny which is mounted to the crossmember, it will have some slight front to back play.
