I posted about a 2 weeks ago telling you guys how I forgot to torque the heads down properly and got coolant everywhere.

I finally got it all back together and torqued everything down right and everything seems great. UNTIL the car reaches about 190* and coolant starts to leak from what looks like the back of the block and smoke pours from the back of the intake manifold.

I used brand new gakets and bolts and I double checked that everything was torqued down correctly and all the surfaces were clean.

What do you guys think is going on?
I made sure all the bolt holes were completely dry as well.

Please help.

 

Ok, did you ensure you properly transfered the coolant pipe plugs on the back of the heads? I use thread sealer on those little bolts because they could seep on you. I ask that question. I'd pull the intake and see if that's where your coolant is coming from. I'd be willing to bet that one of the gaskets is gone or bad and that is your leak. 190 degrees is where the thermostat is opening so it's probiably changing the pressure characteristics enough to cause the leak. I'd check those first. It's most likely a irritating simple fix. If that's the problem it's a $30 fix and a couple of hours.

 

I think that is exactly what is going on. I don't remember any coolant plugs that go on the back of the heads, so I take it that is my mistake.

How do I fix this? Where can I get the plugs at?
Does that mean that coolant in my oil again?

 

The plugs aren't really on the "back" of the heads. The plugs he's talking about are like the ones that are on the front of the block/intake area that connect you're TB to the coolant lines running below it. I hope that makes sense. You have to take the intake off to be able to get to them. They're about 1"x1 1/2" with 2 little stubs on the bottom of them. There are suppose to be 2 of them that plug in to the heads in the back of the block. You have to have them laying around b/c they were on there when you took the heads off.

If you don't have them, some sponsors carry them or try calling a gm dealership first to see if they have them in stock.

Do I have to change the oil again?

 

if the problem was what was mentioned, and coolant only got out, then no, you don't have to change the oil.
