"green stuff", are you referring to the color of the oil? What is so good about this stuff? Are there any benefits compared to other synthetics or is this just a bunch of hype?!

I actually asked a mechanic at the local oil-change shop and he said amsoil was one of the worst oils around. I thought that was odd since everybody here says it one of the best. I would beleive the people on this site way before I believe this guy.

Apparently the oil analysis results show that the GC oil doesnt break down as fast as other oils, including M1. I figured it wouldnt hurt to try this stuff to see if my oil consumption goes down. I'm still trying to figure out the green thing...

I think he's referring to the label as being green. That's the only thing I can think of; the oil I've seen ain't green.

There are 2 diff colors of German Castrol. The old formula was green, and the new formula is gold.

And the dealership probably fills the tank with 87 before they sell them, is that also good enough? If you care enough about your car to register on this site and post here, surely you can take a few moments to read up on what oil will best protect your engine.

I got the last 6 GC in stock at my local Autozone. They had quite a few of the regular 0W30 behind it. I looked really close and noticed it was made in US. I got a little excited when I saw a full shelf of it. But it was just the regular stuff behind it. Now Ive got to go a little further to keep using this stuff. Im gonna go on a little road trip.

People on the oil forums seem to feel the green is better than the gold.

Can I run 0W30 in the summer? If not what should I run in the summer in Chicago?

You can definitely run this oil in the summer. Because it's a thicker viscosity at operating temperature than most 5w30 and 10w30 oils out there, it will protect better in the heat then they would. Don't let the 0w number fool you, that doesn't mean this oil cannot handle heat. It's got a much better HTHS number than Mobil 1 10w30. (3.6 compared to 3.1)

Yep. Plenty of hard driven 100K+ LS1's living just fine with M1. Ain't like we're revving to 10,000 rpm

Hey Patman is there any truth to the Green GC being a better formula than the Gold?

GC is great oil and is proven, but there have been a few analyses at www.bobistheoilguy.com showing it to be a little too thin once you start serious mods. With a cam or a blower or turbo, you'll need a little thicker oil like M1's 5W40 SUV synthetic or 0W40 to get the best results on a stock LS1 or one with stock bearing clearances. I'm using GC gold, but when once my car is cammed (it has 95k on it now), I will probably switch to a 40 weight, at least in the summer.
