Default Stupid oil pump.......

I got the 408 running and started doing some part throttle tuning. When it idles at a light the oil pressure is around 30-35(per the stock gauge). When take off slowly its around 45-50 and when I give her some gas she is around 60.

Should I be worried about the low oil pressure at idle?

you might be running oil that is a little thin. What did the engine builder reccommend for oil weight for the clearances that they used?

don't sweat it.... I had the exact same pressures. I bet they used .022-.023 on the rods and mains. The stock clearances are considered too "tight" by most engine builders

Use some 10w-30 castrol GTX for about 1000mi then switch to a 5w-40 or 10w-40 synth. and you'll see that oil pressure jump 7-10psi.

You're looking for trends with an oil pressure gauge anyway

Hey there, FFHP built my shortblock so what did they tell you as far as oil goes? I am assuming when you said you had the exact same pressures you meant that for your current 408 listed in your sig.

I would go with some standard Castrol 10-30W,that's what LME told me to run when i fire up my new shorblock. I always run standard oil 10-30W for the first 3-5K miles but that is what i like to do to insure a good break in. Your preassure is fine but if you want more the thicker oil will give it to you.

We installed a TSP ported LS6 pump on a local guys car a few months back and was getting 45-50 psi at idle with 10-30W on a 80K mile stock bottom end.

10w-30 winter and 10w-40 summer.

I run amsoil 5w-40 synth after break-in.
