Default How do you clean all the oil from an engine????

While my heads are off I thought I'd clean out the old oil. How do I do it?

There were alot of metal chunks from the broken spring dampers and cups so I need to clean the oil pan and flush the rest of the oil out.

Ether...aka 'starting fluid'. Works great. Power wash everything too. Is your motor out?

I found lots of 'interesting' stuff when I took my ARE motor apart. Unreal.

If you have access to a parts washer, this would yield great results as well, brake clean is also an option, I assume the motor is apart, I would not go washing down your cylinder walls if not.

No my engine is in the car still, we just took the heads off to get them rebuilt. The rest of the engine is intact. I thought I'd clean the oil as much as possible since there were broken peices of metal in there.

How hard is it to take the oil pan off just by jacking the car up?

You'll probably have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up.

To get the oil pan off?

I guess I could just stick one of those magnet sticks in the oil pan drain hole and pick up most of the crap that might be in there. Then do a couple total oil changes in the same day using that flush stuff.

It is highly unlikely you'd be able to get everything doing that. There are all kinds of baffles/windage tray etc that will more than likely prevent that. I say you pull the motor, and go through it. I can almost guarantee you'll be glad you did. I had so much goofy/wrong **** in my ARE deal it made my stomach turn.
