Default Porting stock Heads vs Aftermarket heads

Is it worth the money to buy new heads vs taking them to a machine shop and having them ported? Is the flow #'s somewhat compareable?

I would also be interested to know if anyone has taken a set of ported LS6 heads and done an "apples to apples" dyno comparison with aftermarket heads.

I hear the LS6 heads can be ported and polished to flow some great #'s.
But choosing a head all depends on what kind of camshaft you want.

Hopefully someone on here can explain us all this....
Because I sure as hell cant!

IE: MS3 with which head for best results...
Compared to a 224/228 or even a TSP tourqer 2

Did you get prices from the machine shop you are thinking of? Do they have proven results porting the casting you are going to bring them? You need this information before you can campare the advantages disadvantages of having yours ported or buying an aftermarket casting. You need to do a little legwork of your own on this and then the search button works wonders on here.
