Default Is this going to cause problems?

That is the area at the rear of the block that got damaged from a converter backing out (a guess) Its on a shortblock I bought, I spent all my time checking out the sleeves and area around them etc. that I totally forgot to cover the rear of the block. Is this damage going to cause a problem with the engine functioning properly. I know that no fluid travels through there and the area around the rear cover is fine and flat, the perimeter where the transmission bolts up is also except for in one area where you can see in that picture, and that is my main concern. Please let me know if this is going to cause any problems. I already feel sick to my stomach that there is another $1000 down the drain on something I cant use. Thanks for any help
