0.036 Out of Hole
Is it possible that a 347 has a Out of Hole piston .036"
If so, with a .054 gasket the quench will be 0.018,.
Is that freaky ??
I've never run across such a big out of hole in an LSx motor.
Anyone with feedback on this?

WHAT???? That's not good. You should keep a piston to head clearance of about .040 with steel connecting rods and about.060 with aluminum rods. Something isn't right there. If this is your new motor that a vender built I'd be calling because eithor A. The block has been decked hardcore like. B. You have a set of pistons in there that are jacked. If you have a set of pistons for a 6.098 rod with a set of 6.125 rods you get about .028 where the piston goes up further in the bore. Which if you had the right rods would put you about .008 out of the hole with is perfectly fine. Sounds to me like they installed the wrong pistons. CALL THE VENDER YESTERDAY AND DON'T GO ANY FURTHER... I am not certain about LS1 motors because I don't have a ton of experience on them compared to other engines BUT with other engine types you run em that tight you can crash the pistons into the heads.

Don't panic guys, I do not have the block yet, this was over an inquiry:
3.898 bore
6.125 rods
Diamond slugs
That is probably the problem, matching Scat rods with diamond pistons. Brand new LS6 block.
That is why I asked the vendor if he was sure it was .036 and not .0036.

I haven't heard of anything more than .014 out of bore. I personally run mine .002 out of bore. Better to keep the rings lower to keep the temps on them down. I talked to some guys at je and lunati that agree with my rational.
