Default Patriot heads and 500rwhp

There are more than a few threads around about how hard it is to make 450rwhp+ on stock cubes, however there seem to be more than one customer that has walked out of LT1Dave's shop with 500rwhp on Patriot heads. Not doubting anyone at all, because I'm sure anything is possible but does anyone have any idea how this might be happening? I haven't heard anything bad about LT1Dave so I must assume he knows what he's doing...

It can be done. There are a few cam grinds that will dip into the 400's without the use if heads. I am assuming that it would take quite a bit to get near 500. Most that have really stout H/C combos are in the 460-480 range. So 500 at the crank is more likely what you are hearing about.

He's using a 6.0 block 366ci vs. a 5.7 block 346ci. That is where some of the extra hp is coming from.

yeah but 20ci = 40-60rwhp? Or is there something about the 6.0 block that is special? Keep in mind most everyone else is pulling 440RWHP with Patriot heads from what I can tell.

You would be amazed what a few CI's can do. That is also one of the reasons that people switch to the 6.0L block. The weight is where the problem comes in for most. So think about it that way. Would you only want a few more rwhp and be stuck with 80 more pounds in the front end of your car? There are people that do run 440's through the Patriot heads with a nice matched cam. It just so happens that it is fairly common. Joe Overton's cam will give you that range just with cam only from what I have been hearing.

It all comes down to tons and tons of R&D time and combo after combo tried and tested. The dyno numbers are legit, he is local/friend. I actually did the dyno pull his car on a dynojet here (have dynojet access), and some of his other cars have done it on on other dynos too.

TT Performance did the green Z28 H/C and put down 505rwhp and 436rwt. Stock bottom end, longtubes and 90/90 intake. Take a look, http://www.ttperformance.net/cars/bspz28/

I think he's talking about using patriot heads. Everyone knows that people have shot past 500rwhp with different heads. Especially AFR's. I'm sure ETP's will have their fair share of 500+rwhp cars as well. I bet phill99vette will have 550rwhp on his setup.

so with all this in mind, 550rwhp would be attainable with a 6.0 shortblock and AFR/ETP heads with a good cam, right?

Yeah 550 RWHP with a solid roller set up, those are excellent #'s but they won't be possible with a hydraulic setup with a 5.7 or 6.0 block.
