Default F13 vs 228R

I'm down to the F13 112 LSA or the 228R 112LSA. I want the one with the lumpier lope and im not revving past 6500. I hear F13s eat lifters, is this true? if so was the problem fixed?

yeah i wanna hear more on this topic. the 228r is definitely the smallest cam i would go. i wonder how it would stack up against the f13 or torquer as far as drivability, performance...

You need to do some research. The fm13 is not the end all of cams. My tr224 eats it up all the way to 5800 rpms. HP and TQ.
WHat makes you say that? Here are some numbers of a fm13 vs a tr224. The tr224 out pulls it all the way to 5800 rpms then the fm13 peak by 10 more hp. Unlss you running your car at 600 rpm and higher your not gonna out pull the tr224. Also the fm13 never beats it in torque. The torquer cam will do the same but will produce more torque than the fm13 but all the power is gonna be past 5800 rpms as well. The bigger the cam the latter the power, which is ok at the track but not ideal for a street driven car. Get the tr224 on a 112 lsa. My numbers are in my sig. Peak numbers dont mean squat, in a DD car
These are all mustang dyno numbers. Dynojet add 8-10%

5500 - 392, 375 .. 383, 367
5600 - 395, 371 .. 390, 365

line graph goes beyond 5600 rpms, this was a print out of the numbers. I'm sure I dont have to convince anyone the fm13 had more peak.

Here let me break it down for you:
at 4000rpms - the tr224 is putting down 288hp, and 377 ft#'s of torque .. the fm 13 is putting down 270hp, and 355ft #'s of torque. The fm13 has 18 less hp and 22 ft #'s less torque. Which is the better cam at the rpm range? That is what you need to consider. At what rpm range are you going to drive your car and where do you want your power. Some say (with experience)rods bolts are suspect after 6500 rpms.
This was before a simple cat change. Now the tr224 peaks the same as the fm13 - 410hp on a mustang dyno but the fm13 never comes close in tq

I have a comp 228, 112 LSA with XER lobes. I love it. The idle is mean, power is abnoxious, and only a 6-8 rwhp difference from the F13 with my set up. I have 243 heads with upgraded push rods and valve train, M6, Ram clutch and tsp true duals. Numbers are 422/408 at the wheels. PM me if you have any specific questions. When I did my tune and dyno there was a guy with the same set up except he had the F13. The dyno difference was less than 8 rwhp.

Nope, but I love the way mine sounds. It's an agressive roar, w/o the lope.

my first cam was the f10. I loved it. I thought I wanted bigger so I went with the f13. I dont have the low end grunt it used to have. The torque was really nice! with the f10 114 i put down 377/372 and with the f13 112 and ls6 heads i put down 396/366. The tune isnt on point at all for the f13 and i expect it to be much better once i tune it, but i feel i should've stuck with the f10. I guess i just jumped on the band wagon because I was impressed by the peak numbers everyone was posting. That made me stray from my original goals of having streetable power..the f13 was still pulling at 6700 If your not going to spend alot of time at the track or in the high rpm range, id go with the 228 112.

i just want to make sure it lopes, originally i wanted an MS3 mainly for the lope and it makes amazing power, but then i realized i really dont feel comfortable spinning past 6500K. I need sound clips of the 228/228 112LSA, because there is only one on ls1sounds. I will be running through LT's, ORY, DMH cutout, hooker catback and i want as muhc lope as possible but the power curve to peak around 6200 - 6400

i have a clip, but its with duals and i dont have anywhere to host it. send me your email and ill try to send it to you. mine was on a 114 also. The point of a cam isnt for the sound, its for the gain. if you want sound, get a cam with more overlap and a low LSA.

I want the best of both worlds. My buddy has a 231/237 through LTs, ory, dynomax bullet, GMMG and the lope sounds so sexy....but its lacking in low end, i just want it to know how the lope is compared with the 228R

Or lower the idle. The 228 cam will lope like crazy if the idle is low enough.

i "had" the exact setup as you on my car and you will be happy with the 228 on a 112 and it peaked between 6100-6200.

Well I don't know about the 228, but I had a 225 on 112 in my previous a4 car, and the lope was definatley noticeable even through the Hooker catback. The 228 will be even more pronounced!
