Default F13 carnage pics

*For those who don't know there was a bad batch of F13 cams sometime last year. most have pulled them to find chewed up lifers, this is the story of one of them*
Pulled this cam and lifters out today. I had installed this cam in a customers car sometime last year. It has about 10k miles on it. The owner saw all the posts and realized he had bought his F13 around the same time as the "bad batch". Even though his car was driving and sounding perfect he ordered a MS3 cam, ported oil pump, LS2 timing chain, Morel lifters and all gaskets for me to install, just to be on the safe side. Wewll i pulled the parts out and snapped some pics. Luckily he bought all these parts and had me install them before anything else got messed up.

What's the point in the lifters being larger. Or is that just how they make them?

Just one more reason to go with a TR224. Nice pics, you can really see the damage.

I suppose if TR was selling an incorrectly ground batch of cams, they'd somehow magically not chew up the lifters.

Another FYI, all Morels that have been shipped since Oct. of '05 have been the Hi lift versions. They made 2 versions, one for .650" lift and one for .695" lift. They decided not to do 2 versions and just make the 1 hi lift version. Body is longer but will work with OEM or aftermarket cam cores with no oiling issues.

Has anyone said for sure what manufacturing date range the Cam Motion cams can cause these problems? Is it only the FM-13s? Have they owned up to what causes this? Was it a heat treating/hardness issue? I installed a FM-14 in Nov 04 for someone and was wondering if maybe it would need to be checked?

Yeah, back in July of last year is when mine came out looking like that. Nobody had really seen that type of wear on the lifters and cam back then (at least not that I found searching the boards), so it just got chalked up to "one of those things".

It just gave me a good reason to go with a bigger cam. I am glad no other damage occured due to the F13. Well I guess I better ship the F13 back to Futral.

I'm wondering this too, a friend of mine put in an F13 around that time, it was a custom grind though, so we're not sure if it would've been part of that batch of cams.

Futral nor Cam Motion have released any info. on affected cams. Almost everyone has gone by the time frame.

Hmm, that sucks. So I guess the only way to really know is to actually take the cam out/look at the lifters?

I got my made from Comp Cams.I tried ordering a F-13 from Futral in that time frame as well ( think thats when it was). I had Comp do a custom grind of it for me since the F-13 was like 6 weeks out at the time....
