Looking for that tapping noise w/stethoscope
Not really sure where tapping noise is coming from. I have pulled the heads like 5 times each time reducing the noise but now I think its not coming from inside the engine (long story most of the noise was from pushrods rubbing head but I have since correct all that much much better no more rubbbing).
I have a stethoscope and I can hear the internal tapping but its not all that loud sounds like normal engine sounds I hear constant taps. I put stethoscope up to my brothers Jeep and it kind of sounds the same but my engine is louder of course. But inside the car with door closed I can hear that tapping noise its like a distinct tap. Tap gets faster with the higher RPMs.
What are some other tapping sources besides internal engine.
I checked around manifold to heads and no exhaust leak there.
I checked around the air tub to manifold no leak there.
I have new plug wires.

same problem on a guys corvette that I fixed and we replaced the idler pully. That fixed it. If its a manual, you might want to check you throw out bearing (push clutch in and see if the tapping goes away). Are you sure its not just normal valve train noise? LS1's are know to be noisy engines. You could re-torque your rocker arms. If you ever replaced your headers, did you use the metal gaskets or the paper ones? If you used the paper ones, you might have an exhaust leak.

How about those air tubes from both headers can't those check valves tick?
My headers have the metal gaskets not leaks there really good seal.
Shouldn't you heard that ticking really good with the stethoscope. Odd how I can hear it better inside the car than with the stethoscope.

My car just started ticking yesterday. and you can bearly hear it sometime but most of the time while slowing down and down shifting. I am not sure but if you find out let me know. I am doing cam, rockers, springs, and pushrods so i hope that helps it go away. and it is not just normal ls1 noise becuase you can hear it when you drive.
