Default 6.0 Heads Vs 5.3 Heads

If you were building an N/A Heads Cam Car which set of heads would you pick, and why?

Well
5.3's have a smaller chamber, 6.0L have a better set of ports. I would do the 5.3L from TEA or if I wanted to go all out, 6.0L's milled down alot and ported for another 30-40cfm more than the 5.3's

Well if the 6.0's flow better and are milled to a higher compression wouldn't they give me more power?

you can use a bigger cam with the 5.3's and not have to worry about P/V clearance like you do if you mill a lot off of the 6.0's.

It's easy to get 11:1 compression from the 5.3's with slight milling, where the 6.0's would take quite a bit. 6.0's would be better for FI applications or strokers.

Correct me if I am wrong guys... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I would do 6.0 liter heads with welded up combustion chambers. I like the mid lift numbers of the 6.0 heads.

5.3 heads will rtequire chamber work to flow any where near 5.7 or 6.0. Chamber work if done by hand is critical because different size chambers will cause missfires and incorrect o2 readings. Fully ported 6.0 will not flow 30 to 40 more cfm than ported 5.3 heads either. Just trying to be helpful.

Thanks Shawn, it looks like I'm gonna go with those 6.0 heads. I was just trying to make sure I'm making the right choice. What kind of compression do you think would go good with these?

TTT 6.0 heads are hard to find. If I can't find a set of them how would the 5.7 Liter heads fare vs the 6.0's?

Just fine, 6.0 will probably flow 10 cfm more but will have less compression, so power will be similar with same effort into both castings.

Be careful as to how large of valves you try and put in the 5.3 heads. I recently was witness to some 2.02 valves that were machined into a stock seat and the seats are actually cracked and began breaking apart in the head. This was also the case on the exhaust valve, but I cant remember the size. The seats need to be changed if larger diameter valves are to be installed in the 5.3 heads. Ask whoever you buy your heads from about this, if they dont know or dodge the question, CAREFUL!!!

Yeah 2.02 valves need a new seat in the 5.3L heads.

LS1derfull I have only seen 300cfm numbers out of 5.3L heads and 340cfm numbers out of 6.0L heads. So if you have seen 5.3L heads that flow more tell me about them, because I might want a set.

If you have the extra cash for the 6.0L cores then get those puppies milled down and have them ported. That's a more expensive way to go but it will work.
