The kit is not that inexpensive. You can find a used tr224 cam for $200 and it will make way more power and torque. Only thing you need is some 918 springs for $150 and youre good to go for $350.

Eh, compare apples to apples here. New cam is about $400 plus $150 for the springs and about what $100 for pushrods. I'm not certain if the hotcam kit is designed for stock pushrods or not. Somebody else would know that answer.

You can run it with the stock prods but its always better to upgrade them. Just save your money and do it right the first time. if not...your gonna regret not getting a bigger or diff cam in the first place.

if your goals are just the "lope"....sure..go for it...

if its to gain hp...a 224cam or bigger is gonna work much better than the hot cam.

Ive run stock pushrods for +30k miles. I ran out of money during the cam install and just reused the old ones. No problems so far. I would definitly get the hardend pushrods though.

I don't have one, but from what I've read there are guys that get good power out of it-the same amount as others of comparable sizes, so I'd say its not so bad considering its cheap and you'll never have to worry about changing valvesprings-a real plus in my book, cause I hate changing those things. Check out crane cams SPDC sells them and the springs will last just as long as the hotcam-at least this is what they tell me. The cams are priced cheaper than the hotcam if memory serves me right.
I've never heard of the LS6 hotcam, I think there is only one (the LS6 cam), which is to small for many of us, but for those wanting a stock type idle, it works well, I hear the power comes on more on top with that cam, and low to mid is more like stock-I can't say for sure since I don't have one.
there is also the ASA cam which is supposed to have gobs of low -mid range torque, and a killer lope to it. its a 226/236 110 LSA I believe, so its pretty agressive
I was told by the sponsors the stock pushrods will work fine, but for added protection, the hardened ones will be recommened. When I do my cam I don't plan on changing them the hotcam doesn't have very high lift and I don't plan on redlining the car every time I drive it, so It depends on what cam you go with and how you are going to drive. How much power do you want to have and how fast do you want to go? Some guys like to put huge cams in their cars and then run at the track with the stock tires and go just as fast as guys with smaller cams and sticky tires. From what I've read the hotcam is a decent street cam, some have issues others don't, maybe its in the tune. I would look up some dyno graphs of some popular cams like the 224/224 and compare them to hotcam ones and see how different the power is and if that difference is worth changing springs all the time and paying more money-for many guys it is since they want max power-me I'd rather have a few less horses in order to not have to change those damn springs.

go for it dude, everyone is always going to tell you to get a bigger cam, but if your car is a daily driver that may not be for you. might look into a LS6 or LS2 cam... i belive you need to change pushrods going to an LS6 cam and i dont know if the LS2 cam will fit, but if it does it would be a nice upgrade just so you can be a bit faster than bolt on cars
