Default front crank seal

while tryin to take this seal out it just tore and now my question is how much of the old seal has to come out becaseu im at the point where to take any more out i will have to sand it out or scrape it there is nothing i can get a hold of adn when i had something it just tore (old seal i guess). i hope there is an easier way that i missed in my search other than the screw driver and hammer method cause that just caused probs.

do it from the back. use the screw driver and hammer to beat it out. you an also find a big socket to use so it puts pressure on the whole seal. if it is on and you dont want to take it off try and get some plyers on it. another thing you can try is to heat the aluminum a bit.

o and you can tell the diffrence in just the color of the cover and the seal. the whole thing that is not the aluminum color comes out.

and nothing but the seal should be getting messed up.

You better find a buddy who knows what they're doing real fast. From your description you have no idea of what your doing. Put the tools down and get help now before you break something.

the seal was bonded to the aluminum so when i beat on it with the screwdriver it just went threw it instead of pulling it off the cover like it should have. and now there is nothing left to push out from behind so what option do i have, heating the aluminum didnt help it just made it more brital (sp). which takes me to my previous statement is the whole seal supposed to pop out or is there going to be peices of it left. i see bare metal in the ring on the front but there is still some of the seal left. does it need to come out or just put in the new seal with some rtv

go get a new seal and look at it. the outer ring of the seal is metal. that is why you want to use a socket so you dont fold all the metal over and have nothing to push on. one thing you can do now is take the screw sriver and from the out side try and beat the metal part of the seal towards the cented bending it. then you can grab it with something.

look get a new seal and look at it. also get you a magnet and it will not stick to the cover because it is aluminum but will stick to the seal because it is steel. tge cover is aluminum only.

Yes. My stock front seal had a metal ring in it (which looked like part of the front cover). The new GM one I got didn't...so far it hasn't leaked
