Default 224 cam 112lsa... pass smog?

i really wanna get a cam for my 99 camaro so i was thinkin either a 224r or a 228r with either a 112 or 114 lsa. with the 224 cam will it pass smog here in cali with a 112 lsa with a good tune or does it have to be a 114. (love the lopey sound at idle) any more info on the 2 cams about smog in cali would be appreciated. -chase

None of those cams will pass. You need -7 degrees of overlap at .050" or less to have the best chance of passing the sniffer.

Nope, the odds are against you. The collection of pass/fail in the database consistently shows -7 overlap as being the cutoff point. Like I said, if you hit everything just right with your tune, the 224 114 might sqeak by, but the odds are against you.

The CheaTR cam excels in this area. So does the TR 220 114 cam.

That cam is -5 degrees at .050". Not a great chance of passing, but you never know 'til you try.

Theres tuners here in cali that can get a 226 single pattern to pass smog.

a 224 on a 114 will pass every time. I know quite a few running this cam.

If you have one of those "drive by" smog tests on the side of the road you would be fine

Don't scare us like that Patrick! I have also known of alot of guys passing with 224/224 114's and even bigger. What is the pass/fail database you speak of?

k kool. I talked to one of the guys at TSP and they said the 224 for sure and the 228 cam with a dead on tune will pass depending on how efficient the cats are working.

I passed NY and Va emmissions with the TR224 564/564 on a 114 with room to spare
