Default Under Drive Pulley guys please chime in

My engine is going to be apart soon for a H/C install and I'm thinking about installing an UD pulley. What are the trade offs / down sides (if any). I understand 8 - 10 RWHP is a realistic gain but any air conditioning / charging / low voltage at idle isssues to contend with??

Thanks for your input

Let's say you're sitting at a long red lite on a hot summer nite with the A/C "ON" and your 1,000 watt stero blasting. If you can live with your dashboard lites dimming a little you might be OK.

Do it while the engine is apart. There realy isn't a downside.

Just wantch for thrown off belts. If your lights dim too much, you can get the overdrive alternator pulley.

I've taken GM Powertrain classes and the instructors claim that the thrown belt problem (A/C) can be solved with a reflash and this is with regular service bay drive in customers not guys who visit LS1 Tech and have underdrive pulleys. Point being if you have an ASP pulley and the A/C belt comes off chances are it isn't the pulleys fault.

What exactly is a reflash? I don't have the belt problem I'm just curious what it is because that sound like a computer thing to me but I can't think what that would have to do with a belt coming off.

I think he means that its able to be tuned out. I for one dont see how this is possible. Its clearly a mechanical issue.

I have the SLP UD pulley. Gage shows decharging @ idle especially with lights on. I'm sure it's shortening the life of my battery but not to worry. I deleted A/C though. The system won't have that to contend with. Don't get a new alternator pulley! That would defeat the purpose!
anyone who says they're not a bitch to install probably doesn't have it tight enough. That's what I'm sayin.

Even though I've heard different instructors say it I too find it hard to believe a reflash can solve a belt problem. I don't have any proof either way. Unless your local garage has a library of PCM files you'll have to go to your local GM dealer for a reflash.

I have a March fliud UD pulley No problems but I do have a Optima battery and I put it on a 2amp charge every couple weeks or so. I did throw a belt but that tensioner had 95K miles on it replaced the tensioner, no more thrown belts.
