Default 6.0 or 5.7

My car has 130000 so i've been saving up for a new engine. i'm thinking about finding a 6.0 truck or ls1 short block then adding heads and a cam before swapping into my car. which would be cheaper in a yard? a truck 6.0 or a ls1(both with less than 30000 miles)?

Can't say for sure, but I'd guess the 5.7 because it's more common.

I'd say the 6.0 for one reason the LS1 = premium engine to them.

You might be able to find an ignorant shop that doesnt know what the LS1 is and could score one for cheap. But most of these guys probably dont know about the 6.0 engine so you might be able to get a better deal on that vs an LS1, even with there being more LSx vehicles.

No matter what, take into consideration that the intake, oil pan and headers on the 6.0 probably need to be replaced with your Fbody parts in order to fit. (Cant remember what else)

ya yards see the engines that come out of trucks as truck engines, alot of ppl dont realize they are the same thing just way heavier. if you're going with a truck motor you might as well get a 6.0 but i would take an aluminum 5.7 over that any day.

I've read on here that the iron block is only like 80 lbs heavier. i know thats a lot of weight in the wrong place. Is the 15-16 extra cubic inches going to cancel out the gain in weight going to the 6.0?

i think its more than 80 lbs. when i replace my iron block 4.3 with a aluminum ls1 ill gain like 20 lbs. mostly ppl get the iron blocks when they are going 600+ hp. aluminum dissapates heat alot faster also, less heat = more efficiency

Its around 80lbs Im fairly sure of that.

Is the extra cubes going to cancell out the weight? Not stock, IMO.

But once you start running through the mods, that weight difference wont matter THAT much.
