Thanks for the info! Isn't there another head gasket for the 02 ls1's, a Multi Layered Steel (MLS)that was used during the later half of production.The gasket material that I see sticking out on my engine seems to be a conventional graphite gasket.

One set had them and one set didn't. So I think some were in the 2000 production year is were they changed.

And the heads leaked coolant without even starting it. Noticed it while filling it.

Good work guys, I wouldn't have noticed that notch on the heads and may have fitted the wrong gaskets. But thanks to you guys, I now know to watch for it.
