TPiS ZL11X Cam
TPiS ZL11X Cam Has anyone tried this cam? It's the "biggest" cam TPiS sells without requiring fly-cutting the pistons. My setup will include a stock 2002 LS6 shortblock with Manley springs/retainers, 5.3L heads and I am looking to use this cam. What kind of power can I expect with the associated external "bolt-ons"? I am kinda thinking upwards of 450HP at the flywheel.
What size valves are in the 5.3 heads? If they are larger than stock you might have to flycut. I don't know what the specs are on that cam, but if its similar in size to the MS3, TRex, X3 I'd say with heads you could see close to that.
Full bolt-ons should get you around 400 at the flywheel.With bolt-ons ,heads,and cam it would be almost impossible to get less than 450 at the flywheel.Most people go by rwhp thats a little bit more challenging to get 450 rwhp,but has been done many times.

Wow I didn't see the at the flywheel part. You should see that pretty easily-I'd be more worried about RWHP than flywheel hp though.

TPIS rates everything at the flywheel becuase one its more accurate and two they have an engine dyno in their shop

Will the TR224 work without flycutting my pistons along with my 61cc 5.3L heads? Whats the max lift on the TR224 with a 1.7:1 rocker? And BTW, I know guys from TPIS. The ones I know are really good people, they do not rate their numbers in flyhwheel to make them look better. Fact is flywheel hp is far more accurate when comparing the same engines in two different cars. LS1 in a corvette vs LS1 in a camaro.
I think that the 224 should fit w/out flycutting. What size valves do you have in the heads? I had 2.02 and 1.57 valves on a 5.3L head and could fit a 231/237 no prob.

They practically pioneered gm efi performance like back in the late 80's I think.There intake design (miniram) was just about copied by gm on the lt1.There developments to the tpi motor were second to none.They just don't seem to be as popular in the lsx world.Although they do have some pretty cool things for the lsx.
