Default Looking at LS1's....need tips please.

This is my first time on here, have read around looking for the question im going to ask, but didnt really find direct answers. I appologize if this is in the wrong area. I was just forced to get rid of my 2005 dodge ram. so now im looking at getting into an LS1. any of the cars that have it, (they are all sweet looking to me) what should i look for when buying one? what generally goes wrong with them (both auto and manual) and what do you guys consider high miles? i would kinda like to get one as stock as i can cuz i love adding the mods on myself. thanks in advance.

Look for a 99 or newer. 2001 and newer are the most desireable. LS1 engines are designed for a 300,000 mile service life but the lower the mileage the better. There are no major problem areas that you won't find in any other used cars.

What he said.

Also, make sure you hear the car start cold. Some LS1's sound like they're going to self desruct when they first fire up. Piston slap and lifter noise is what I mean.

Most f-bodies leak from the pinion seal in the rear dif, chances are good that the ones you look at will, too. You could point this out to a prospective seller and use it as a bargaining chip lol.

There are a number of advantages to getting a 2001+ car. Better clutch hydrolics, better intake manifold (LS6), EGR delete, and more.

Happy hunting.

sweet guys, thats exactly what i was looking for. this one im looking at has 110000 miles on it. its a black T/A. and they want 7800 for it which i think with those bargaining tips you gave me i should be able to get it down around 7000 or so. hopefully it goes through cuz its a sweet ride.
