Default Preload issue, need educated opinion

When I orignally put my motor together, I did not check the preload, so yesterday I pulled the valve cover off and used a dial-indicator to check it.

I am coming up with .050. I am using 7.400" CompCams PR. I know the range is .050 to .100 and if I go to the next size PR is 7.450". That would put me at .100 and probably quiet the valvetrain down.

I would rather split the difference and go with a PR that is in the 4.430" range, but that does not seam to be an option.

My lifters are CompCams OE ProMagnum, Rockers are Jessel 1.7 and the cam is a CompCams 232/234 .595/.598 LSA 112.

Should I leave it alone, or get the longer PR?

You could try it and see how noisy it is. Or, you could use the 7.425" Comp pushrods.

From Thunder Racing web site:

63-7796-16 Comp Cams Hi-Tech One-Piece Chromemoly pushrods, 7.425" (.025" Long LS1,-2,-6, Gen III)

you are checking this when the motor is hot..correct?

i usually run preload a little on the softer side.

if this is when the motor is hot, then i think you should still be ok.

I have the same cam in mine and I keep getting this annoying ticking/knocking sound. I currently have 7.4 pushrods do I need the 7.425's to fix this?

I checked it cold, lifter pressure bled off.

I called Comp Cams and they said to run between .040 and .060 on that cam/lifter package.

He also stated that cam has the tendancy to make a little more valvetrain noise.
