Default Approx.HP W/ Z06 Cam

(It would be going in my 99'Z28)

What should I expect HP/Torque wise from a 2002-04 Z06 cam/GM springs?

Is it even worth buying or is there another cam close in comparison?

I have not been around in the muscle car scene long enough to really know whats what. I just know that I want more power but also a comfortable daily driver.

Thanks all
Shawn

I cant give you specific numbers but if youre interested in a ZO6 cam and springs w/ retainers & even lifters I have a complete set of all new parts I will sell you dirt cheap. Hey they arent doing me any good and if I can save you some bucks, so be it! Peace!

About 25 peak HP - power gains start at about 4k rpm, but the biggest gains will come at 6200+ rpm so you'd need to raise your shift-points.

i've seen anywhere from 350rwhp to 375rwhp using that cam. i think your gains will depend heavily upon the tune, as that is a VERY tame cam.

If you are going to all the work of a cam swap, then your better off putting a better cam in. Your gains will be after 4k rpm. For instance, you could put a TR224 in there and make better power than the LS6 everwhere.

I'd definatley go with a 224 or one of MTI's stealth cams over the LS6 cam.

IMO, the gains from an LS6 cam is not worth the hassle/cost of a cam swap. I second the notion of a cam such as the TR224.

Thanks everyone. Is there a website for both of these cams?

www.thunderracing.com
they have the 224 cam that most people run.

If you don't have headers, and don't plan on getting them you may want to look at the CheaTR cam that thunder offers. It's more designed for the limitations of stock manifolds.

If I would have had full bolt ons, and had more of a chance to get it tuned, it would have been in the 380's hp range, and probably close to if not 380 tq. Just has to be tuned well. I was making more power and tq with that cam than a lot of people are with larger ones. A setup is probably 60% tuning, and 40% setup.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there on that one. That cam peaks before 6200rpms so I find it hard to believe that beyond that is where you will see the most gains. You should see gains throughout the entire rpm range. There are much better cams out there.

That statement is misleading in a way. Of course there are better cams out there, but if you are in a certain price range, then this is the perfect cam for you. It is very easy to tune, and relatively cheap to be had, and in my opinion, it is one of the better cams out there for these 2 facts. And from what I have seen, some of the larger cams don't make the power and tq that they claim. This one makes great tq and power throughout the spectrum.

My car saw about 20 rwhp peak gain on a more conservative tune, but the real gains were where the stock cam falls off.. at 6000 rpm the LS6 cam is 40 rwhp up from the stock cam, and the LS6 cam will hold power pretty well to the limiter (6600 rpm). This cam loves a set of 4.10's in a M6 for this reason.

HOSS is absolutely right, my entire cam swap cost LESS than the new cam I just ordered, lol..

Everyone always claims there are better cams out there and sure there are on paper.. but its in the setup and tuning that really counts. I walk all over bigger cammed cars at my local track all the time and most of the time they all just crawl all over my car looking for nitrous lines..

If your going to spend the money on all the stuff, you might as well call up a vendor on the right --------> and tell them what your goals are and let them help you spec a camshaft for your needs.
